Baschet Cristal.
I believe this one was real, accoustic.
I've played with a real Cristal baschet, and on Revolutions it is cleary a sampled one- you can hear the loop. It's a very clean sample so it must've been done on the CMI 3.

I often wondered why CMI I is included- I'm guessing that he overdubbed on some earlier work for the Revolutions album? As we know he recycles ideas a lot. :)

I've seen Peter Gabriels IIx in the flesh so to speak, and it is white. I've never seen any pics or vids of him with a black CMI.

Agree with It'sMeonly. Even the sequencing on Revoutions was mostly Akai MPC. One of the things coming from the CMI is the  Baschet Cristal.

My vote goes for "Moon Machine" which would've been a Zoolook album track except that it doesn't have any human voices on it. It reeks of Page-R and features a lot of presets, with his matrisequencer tricks on top. I keep it as the second last Zoolook track on my iPod, fits well. :)

I don't know of anything that basic, but RME stuff is really great.

I think the particularly low bandwidth of the series 1 helps to make the source difficult to recognise. IIRC a few artists kept the IIx for sampling because of this effect.

My deepest condolences, he sounds like someone who really made a difference and enjoyed his life.

The Fairlight had/ has pretty good librarian features AFAIK. Browsing on a external machine would not be necessary I think.

Does the 30A have a way to load disks from IIx or III? Even if it could load the disk images, that would be good.
