What I'd love to see... / Funding The Fairlight 30A
« on: December 14, 2010, 08:51:30 PM »

In regards to funding the new Fairlight to get off the ground and out there on the market, Would it be a possible to approach the original Fairlight users
Such as Peter Gabriel for instance?
Peter now owns a substantial slice of Solid State logic, and has been working closely with designers to launch a variety of smaller products and expand the brand name.
I know that the concept of more affordable product lines has already popped up on this forum, but the big time inverters will probably want to cover that way of thinking as well.
Perhaps seeking funding from larger keyboard companies such as Roland or Yamaha?

I'm sure if his Lordship put it nicely and had all the costings sorted as well as the final product mapped out and ready for production, the old boys and girls of the early Fairlight brigade would invest.

The main problem is actually having a finalised beast to invest in.

It's a lot of fun putting ideas in for a future beast to arise, but I fear no major investor will contribute until the speculation is over and the final plans for the unit are on the table and ready for the production line.

What I'd love to see... / USB Contol Surface
« on: December 14, 2010, 08:31:51 PM »

In regards to the return of the fat old monitor and the light pen I think that everyone would love to retro out with that interface, but is there's room for a
 USB controller as well.

Something that covers the analogue knob vibe for control of filters and parameters, Volume sliders and drum pads.
Perhaps available in several versions such as 8, 16 and even 24 channels of control.

That's something that hasn't been covered on older units and would be a welcome addition to the system.

What I'd love to see... / Analogue filters
« on: December 14, 2010, 12:54:44 AM »

One funky addition to the sampling world we haven't seen in decades is the addition of an analogue filter section.

I've been getting back into the old Emu samplers and when comparing them to more modern additions, you can't compare the warmth and bottom end.
In combination with the digital compression in the Emulator III, the definition is unbelievable for the price you can get them for these days.

Even with Crystal Core technology, which I'm sure is incredible, I bet there will still be a place for those old samplers.

A combination of the two technologies is the way to go. Curtis make the chips you get in the new Prophet 08 by Dave Smith. The same brand used in the old EMU's.
That angle would take care of every aspect of the sound process and make for a much happier chappie when writing and creating new sound.

The only draw back with those old samplers is the memory restrictions as we all know. A problem the new Fairlight system won't have, so being able to load up a multitude of patches at the same time would be a massive move forward with analogue filters.

Let's face it. The projected price is still out of the reach of most mortals, so the added costing of the filters won't be that mind blowing to those who can
 afford this new marvel.

P.S: I want one for putting up such a great idea. :)

P.S.S: As long as no one else has posted that idea already...lol
