What I'd love to see... / Re: Ram size ?
« on: June 14, 2011, 01:48:45 AM »
As I understand it, the 30A's "mainframe" is essentially a PC (albeit with special cards and wot-not), so I wouldn't have thought RAM is a particularly big deal: I guess it's as expandable as a regular PC, subject to the constraints of the motherboard (likewise the hard drive, which is 500GB per the spec.)

>so I wouldn't have thought RAM is a particularly big deal

thats an assumption , you could find this machine needs special ram at huge prices ? its not specified , the entire detail on ram is left out on a sampler ? whats the first thing you ask when you buy a sampler ? yeah how much ram  it should have some specification .

The ram size needs to be documented as ' plenty ' is a bit vague when your spending $20,000 and the whole spec / document needs work as its vague  , far to vague .There are to many gaps in documentation. Is 1gb possible ? 2gb ? will we have to pay $1000 for the extra ram ( will be be generic ram upgrades or ' special priced ones ' ?  10mb?>>>>>>>>> , the 10mb limit , you need to consider this side a bit as thats a serious limit and one that should be specified in a document .

The 10mb limit on sample / file size is utterly insane in this day and age , it rules out any form of longer sectional / stem work and is tiny.

You really need to specify the ram size  / upgrade path , 10mb limit !!!!!!!! .It looks questionable.Keeping that detail out of the specs looks questionable.

Am i the only one who uses single sample files larger than 10mb ?

i was wondering if you could highlight a few things peter as i am interested in the new system but it lacks some detail in the documentation on certain issues.

Could you highlight what sample formats the system can import first ? or will we need to use a third party convertor for this side of things ?

The second issue was its deep synthesis and overall internal workings ( ie number of lfo , waveforms , details on the convolution side , adsr's ( loopable ? ) and mod matrix and filter side .I cant seem to find any details of this and just felt at this stage and when asking for deposits by now we should have a rough working manual or some form of spec on the synth engine.

Sorry if i missed this and its already documented but i personally really need to know the synthesis specs and also what formats i can import ( sound font 2  would be plenty good enough really as anything can be converted to this first and very well )

I would love to see inside the synth engine on paper before i make a deposit .

Finally will the new fairlight system do hard disk recording and act as a multitrack recorder or have an arrange page.I am seeing the new fairlight as possibly a whole studio with high end ad/da rather than just a really good sampling workstation here ?
