Besides the S2 and S3 library I have a folder named CMI30A Samples, and it contains only samples.

We should be ready to release the first batch of 30A instruments soon.

To make distribution easier, we will send all 30A owners a USB thumb drive containing the instruments and samples.

My CMI-30A arrived today!  I've turned it on, and saw the directory under the DIR page where there's a CMI-30A quick start guide PDF, but how do I access it or copy it off to view on another system?

Also, since this is a PC based instrument I'm apprehensive to just turn it off using the on/off button at the front.  Is there a safe way to shut it down properly?

Also, I'd like to see a method to back up the libraries, etc, to an external hard disk or the internal DVDrw drive.  Again, given that this is a different Fairlight CMI implementation.

Thanks!

Hi Jaish

Welcome to the family!

To access the Quick Start Guide, type "quit" into the command line, followed by Enter.  This will take you to the desktop.  If you then navigate to the C:\CMI30A\Manuals directory, (click the Start button at the lower left of the screen, then double-click OS (C:), then double-click CMI30A, then double-click Manuals), you will see the "CMI-30A Quick Start Guide.pdf" file which you can open using Adobe Acrobat or copy to an external drive.

To shut the system down, type "shutdown" into the command line, followed by Enter.  If you're presented with a "You're about to be logged off" dialogue box, click the "Close" button and the system will then shut down.

To backup libraries, quit the CMI application then you can then copy libraries to an external hard drive or to DVD in the normal way.

If you have any problems or questions just email me.

Cheers

Graeme

after playing around with my CMI-30A, one of the things I would like to see in a next release of the software, is a more 'graphical' way of looping samples, like in the Fairlight app

cheers

One question: Because I might be able to get access to an old Series 3 fairlight, does the CMI-30A read the samples and patches from the series 3? If not, is there a way to convert them?

Cheers

Hi Augusto

We should have more sophisticated sample looping tools available in the next release of software.

The 30A is able to read Series III files, (that's how we imported the factory library), but physically transferring them from the Series III to the 30A is not straightforward.

This is because the 30A obviously cannot accommodate Series III floppy disks or SCSI drives and the disk formats of the two machines are completely different.

We are hoping to offer a conversion service some time in the future though.

Cheers

Graeme
