Fairlight Realizer

I remember as a kid reading about Wolfgang Palm's PPG Realizer. http://www.vintagesynth.com/misc/ppgrealizer.php

(i know the spelling is *wrong* but i'm sure the Americans will like it)

Interesting suggestions, but the new control has already been named.

It's called "Goodness".

I think it should be expanded to:-

Goodness gracious great balls of fire

Actually, I was going to come in late with

"Vogasm"

I always come in too late, darn it

Presumably this is meant as a joke?

Joke?  Why.  I guess you don't like it...
 :D
Here's the official blurb... "Sound quality is continuously variable using the unique “goodness” control which spans from Series I, II, or III quality to “best possible” 36-bit floating point."

This was taken from the specs page
http://fairlightinstruments.com.au/specs
Scroll down to "Functional Spec"...

Of course, like all pre-releases, specifications are subject to change without notice, etc., etc.

It sounds silly and basically unprofessional, like Fairlight aren't really taking things seriously. It's frivolous without giving any feeling for what the control does.

By contrast even Moog's frivolous excesses since Bob Moog died succeed in communicating something meaningful.

To me, it rings alarm bells. I wonder how things like this would sound to people less well disposed towards the new Fairlight than I am and in need of being won over.

I agree. 'Goodness' reminds me of the 'Brilliance' switch on old organs. I was always disappointed that the brilliance switch didn't make me sound better when I was playing badly.  ;)
